Every year in the center of Kuopio the city organizes
the opening of the Christmas season. This year it will be held on 24 November.
The event has a lot to do. There will be Christmas carousels, Santa Claus and
Mrs. Santa, parade with them, reindeer rides, pony riding and hobby-horsing,
lightshow, The snowman movie show, Kauppatori’s stage program and
fireworks!
In Kuopio there are also many Christmas market’s in
winter and more events. For example, in December there is Christmas gift
calendar. So, every day (1.12-24.12, in Finland we celebrate Christmas one day
earlier) one door opens and someone wins something. There is also Christmas
blaze (“Joulun loimu”) event. It’s Christmas globe and street food event. And
the last event in Kuopio’s Christmas is New Year in harbor (“Sataman Uusi
Vuosi”) in 31.12. There are fireworks for kids at 7pm and then the official one
at midnight.
In Petonen, where our school is located there is also
a Christmas event. It’s in “Pinari” (community center) 15.12. The event
includes Christmas sales, music and Christmas shows, free Christmas porridge,
lottery and Christmas karaoke. For children angling, Christmas crafts, teddy
bear hospital (according to your own teddy), library’s fairytale tent. There's
also a Santa Claus for children's delight.
Our school has only two events. We have Christmas
celebration which takes a few hours. And last school day when we go a Christmas
church and school. At school we eat Christmas porridge and do something fun
with our free time in class and get our intermediate certificates.
