Petonen is a
multi-faced park town, located just over ten kilometers from the
center of Kuopio.
Petonen is not actually its own district, but it is a Kuopio metropolitan area / suburb.
Construction of Petonen's "park
town" began in 1986. Pyörös high school belongs to the area of Petonen, it has 489 pupils and Pyörös elementary School belongs to the area of Petonen too, which
has 463 pupils. Litmanen is near Pyörös school,
it's an artificial turf. Petonen is a residential area in the southern parts of
the Kuopio agglomeration. The Petonen area
borders Litmanen, Pitkälahti, Pirtti, excluding Savolanniemi. 13,621 people lives in Petonen. The
most important services in the residential area are located in the center
of Petonen, Pyörönkaari. Petonen has its own social and health center, library,
parish center, youth center and service center for the elderly. Sports
opportunities at Petonen are provided by Lippumäki Swimming
and Ice Rink and Litmanen. K-Supermarket, S-market and Lidl and other services there
are Alko, pizzerias, hairdressers and specialty shops.
