Finnish winter

Finnish winter

Winter is one of Finland’s four seasons. Officially it starts in December and ends at the end of March. In good winter there is a lot of snow. Winter sports is a sport that uses snow and ice. For example, they are snowboarding, biathlon, ski jumping, cross-country skiing, skating, curling, ice hockey and so on...
We also have winter sports at the school sports.

Puijo is a hill and a nature reserve in Kuopio. There are, for example, big ski jumps and skiing trails. And of course, our well known Puijo tower.

Iivo Niskanen is a Finnish cross-country skier who represents the Puijo Ski Championships at the club level. Niskanen is a double Olympic champion. He won the Paris Olympics in 2014 and 50 km of gold in 2018. There is a ski train in Puijo hill called Iivo’s run.

In winter it is usually 15-30 degrees frost. That’s why we need to dress warmly. We don’t have many months in a year when you can only keep shorts.

Climate change is now a topic around the world. We also see climate change in Finland too. There is not so much snow, here it is not so cold, and it's pretty dark.
